USD Coin or USDC is an open source, smart contract-based stablecoin by Circle and Coinbase. This fiat-collateralized stablecoin offers the advantages of transacting with blockchain-based assets while mitigating price risk. The initial implementation is USD Coin (USDC), available as an Ethereum ERC-20, Algorand ASA, Avalanche ERC-20, Hedera SDK, Solana SPL, Stellar asset, and TRON TRC-20, and creating possibilities in payments, lending, investing, trading and trade finance.
History Of USD Coin?
USDC was first announced on the 15th of May 2018 by CENTRE Consortium, a partnership between Circle and Coinbase and was launched in September of 2018. In 2021, Visa announced that it would allow the use of USDC to settle transactions on its payment network. As of December 2021, Circle states that there are 42.5 billion USDC in circulation.
